The Australian Basketball Players Association unanimously stands with current Darwin Salties basketball player and Players Association member Nate Jawai in responding to the recently alleged racist comments directed at him.
Nate is a proud Indigenous man and a significant and highly respected member of the Australian basketball community. The Players’ Association is providing our full support to Nate and his loved ones to ensure they have the support they need.
Nate’s wellbeing is our primary focus, and we ask that all parties concerned show respect to him and his family.
The Players’ Association are committed to ensuring basketball and events associated with basketball in Australia are safe, inclusive, and welcoming for players at all levels and devoid of any discrimination. We recognise the statement of the Darwin Salties and are working with their management team and head coach to support Nate.
There is no place for racism in Australian basketball.
